Sunset Solar Project is an approved, not yet constructed 103 megawatts alternating current (MWac) solar photovoltaic power generation facility, which could occupy or use up to 2,196 acres (3.4 sq. miles). | Approved/Under Review. On April 24, 2025, the Department received preliminary Request for Amendment 1 (pRFA1). In pRFA1, the certificate holder requests Council approval to extend the construction commencement deadline by 3 years, from April 24, 2025 to April 24, 2028; and change the completion deadline from April 24, 2026 to a date extending 3-years from the commencement date. pRFA1 also includes a request to reduce the area within the approved 10,640-acre site boundary and 2,196 acre micrositing area to 1,870 acres. The certificate holder included a request that pRFA1 be reviewed through the Council's Type B review process (Type B Review Amendment Determination Request (Type B Review ADR)). On May 2, 2025, the Department issued a Public Notice of receipt of pRFA1. The Public Notice, and pRFA1 with Type B Review ADR are available in the Timeline below. The Department is reviewing pRFA1 and the Type B Review ADR and is coordinating with reviewing agencies.

On November 19, 2021, the Energy Facility Siting Council approved a Request for Amendment 1 of the Bakeoven Solar Project site certificate, which authorized allocation of previously approved facility components into an amended and two original site certificates for Bakeoven Solar Project, Daybreak Solar Project, and Sunset Solar Project, respectively. All three approved facilities now have separate site certificates and certificate holders, yet all share the related or supporting facilities originally approved in the Bakeoven Solar Project Final Order.
